Toys 'R' Us set for UK return after signing American deal with Macy's

Children's chain Toys 'R' Us is targeting a UK comeback after agreeing a deal with American department store giants Macy's, Unilad reports.

The American deal will see the chain, which collapsed into administration in 2018, establish mini-stores inside Macy's across the United States, with openings planned from late this month through to mid-October. Since the brand was acquired by WHP global in 2021, Toys 'R' Us has partnered with Macy's to make its products available through the brand's website and Macy's online.

Now the brand's set for an in-store return at all Macy's branches across the country. The Toys 'R' Us shops will span from 1,000 square feet up to 10,000 square feet in flagship locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco, with their sections to include hands-on demonstration tables.

The chain announced earlier this year that it intended to relaunch its stores in the UK, and this week it was revealed that it has started recruiting workers for the stores that it plans to open next year. Louis Mittoni, chief executive of Toys 'R' Us Australia, is helping with the UK relaunch, and he said in Retail Gazette: "I’m very excited to welcome over 100 years of retailing experience in our new team, who will lead the relaunch of our iconic brand back into the UK market in the next few months. We have an amazing toy and baby buying team, which I believe is the best in the country.

"With this team now in place, we’re hitting the ground running and have been reaching out to the supply base to see with whom we can align on this amazing journey."
