Everyone knows how great the Toy Story franchise is – but not many know how lucky we are to have it.
Pixar’s greatest series has gone the distance over four films now, but it was almost cut tragically short back in the late 90s.
While Toy Story proved a big success in 1995 – effectively launching the studio and making $191m at the box office – the studio initially focused elsewhere in the years that followed.
A Bug’s Life was Pixar’s priority at the time, and a follow-up to Toy Story was an afterthought at best. In fact, bosses initially set their sights on a straight-to-video style sequel with no theatrical release at all.
Thankfully, plans changed. A late decision was made to focus on Toy Story 2 above all else, and it went on to become the masterpiece of blockbuster animation we know and love today.
