Tourists struck down by food poisoning at 5-star TUI resort in Turkey as one hospitalised

Around 25 tourists have been struck down by a food poisoning outbreak at a five-star resort in Turkey.

At least one of the British holidaymakers – on all-inclusive deals with holiday firm TUI – has been hospitalised.

Families forked out up to £4,000 for breaks at the Rixos Sungate hotel in the Mediterranean, which has 13 bars and restaurants including a ‘world food’ buffet and sushi diner.

One holidaymaker said there were “more than 10 families suffering” and “numbers are growing by the day”.

Kate Dowling tweeted: “My family are in Rixos Sungate – three out of five have food poisoning with one hospitalised. Staff are not doing anything to help, denying all knowledge even though other guests have complained.”

The 1,076-room resort is in Kemer on Turkey’s southern coast. It also has a water park and 12 swimming pools.

German firm TUI describes it as a “platinum” venue that is “tailored for families”. The resort has a 4.5 out of five-star ranking on Tripadvisor.

Last May, TUI paid out £232,000 to eight Brits who suffered food poisoning at a resort in Lanzarote. TUI said yesterday: “We are concerned to hear of a small number of cases at Rixos Sungate. Our team at the resort are offering support where necessary.”

Rixos Hotels owner Accor was contacted for comment.
