Tourists slate 'rude' staff and expensive parking at West Country beach

When it's sunny Bristolians trek to Weston-super-Mare in their hordes to enjoy the town's stunning beach. But not all tourists have been impressed with their trip to the North Somerset coastline.

Lots of people have taken to TripAdvisor to slam the area's car park charges and some also felt aggrieved when they were hit with a fine for bringing their dogs. Our furry friends are banned between May 1 to September 30.

The beach still enjoys four out of five-star rating on TripAdvisors and even those slightly put off by the area's fees, still praised the location.

One reviewer wrote: "One the most unfriendly places I have visited. The locals working in the shops and especially on the pier are rude and be ignorant towards the visitors."

Another said: "Would avoid. Better to go further on to Berrow or Burnham Beach. We went yesterday and ended up being given a fine for sitting on the beach with a dog. Signs aren’t clear. They state you may end up with a fine suggesting discretion is used. Not hard to see why people choose to go abroad and seaside towns are failing and their glory days are now long gone."

And one tourist was really unhappy with the parking fee. They wrote: "Disgraceful charging £6 for 4 hours and calling it summer charges. Had parked and unloaded the baby before we realised it was summer hours and not £2.50."

But of course, lots of people do enjoy their visits with many praising the beach's beauty. One person wrote: "I have walked along here for many a year and enjoy it so much every time, the sea and skyline never gets boring.

"The beach and pier is still an attraction and you can get doughnuts and candy floss just like the old days before the fire."

Another said: "This was our first visit to Weston-super-Mare and we were most impressed at the size of the beach. The tide was out so we could appreciate how vast it was. Will return an a warmer day."
