A tragic incident occurred on Bear Mountain in Sedona, Arizona, where a tourist from California lost her life while on a family hike. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office reported that Zaynad Joseph, 40, fell 140 feet down a cliff while hiking with her husband and 1-year-old child.

During the hike, a group of fellow hikers heard yelling and immediately sprang into action. One of them descended an embankment to assist and found the woman in a severely injured state but still breathing. Despite efforts to save her, Joseph tragically passed away shortly after the fall.

The husband and child were airlifted off the mountain, while authorities recovered the mother's body. The family had been staying at an Airbnb in Sedona at the time of the incident.

The Bear Mountain trail, known for its challenging terrain, is described by the US Forest Service as mostly unshaded, steep, and difficult in places. Ascending 1,800 feet, the trail is deemed unsuitable for horses.

The cause of the tragic death is currently under investigation, with authorities conducting interviews with hikers who were on the mountain at the time. They are urging anyone with information or who witnessed the fatal fall to come forward and assist in the investigation.

This unfortunate event marks the third hiker death in Sedona this year, highlighting the importance of safety precautions and preparedness while exploring the region's natural beauty.
