A man is facing having his penis amputated after having sex for 24 hours while fuelled by drugs.
The 50-year-old unnamed German man is in serious condition in a hospital in Grosseto, Italy, after having sex under the influence of drugs for an estimated 24 hours.
The man and his wife allegedly had a "crazy" night of making love after taking ecstasy at their apartment in Castel del Piano.
Local media reports that the man then felt seriously ill and turned up at the Misericordia hospital earlier this month.
More than a week after he was admitted, his condition has been described as serious.
He is currently in the intensive care unit, however, his prognosis remains confidential and the couple have not been named.
According to local media reports, he had a septic shock which caused necrosis of his penis and scrotum.
Also in Italy, it was reported last month that a bungling urologist is under investigation after he amputated a patient's penis because of a non-existent tumour.
The 30-year-old surgeon is accused of causing serious injury to an unnamed patient in the Tuscany region in 2018.
The man, now aged 68, wants to take to the 35-year-old surgeon to court and is demanding compensation of €400,000 (£350,000).
The patient said that he has suffered “very serious damage” and that he deserves to be compensated for the physical loss of his penis as well as the psychological trauma he went through.
A local newspaper said the ordeal was "as painful as it is embarrassing".
The surgeon who performed the operation was said to be highly regarded, but no longer works at the hospital in Tuscany and has moved jobs to Milan.
