Tourist blasts 'scary looking locals' and 'bland' streets in West Country town

The West Country is filled with stunning beaches and dramatic coastlines. But one tourist and Youtuber was less than impressed with some of Cornwall's offerings.

During a savage video, posted to YouTube account Turdtowns, he described the county's 'worst towns'. The anonymous channel owner calls Cornwall "probably the most touristy" place in the whole country and we know he's not wrong.

But he also has some less agreeable opinions about some of the county's best-loved and most lived-in places, reports Cornwall Live.

He says St Austell should be condemned, Launceston is unwelcoming and Redruth is filled with 'scary looking locals'. Camborne was dubbed so pointless it may as well not exist while Bodmin's high-street was called sorrowful. Read what he had to say during the savage video below in which places were branded grim, filthy and depressing.

8. Launceston

Described as "not the worst place" he said that people in Launceston were not nice or welcoming and there was "a rough atmosphere". Launceston Castle is described as a "turd lump on a hill" during the video and he added that the the town's 24-hour Tesco store was its only claim to fame.

7. Newquay

Described as the most famous entry on his list, he brazenly claimed Newquay was famous for cheap-run down hotels and chlamydia - but was actually rather impressed. "Newquay is not run down like the other places I've visited today," he said, praising the nice beaches and plenty of things to do. He did however call the town "St Ives on crack".

6. Penzance

He admitted he went into Penzance expecting to find it was much worse. He said: "The main street isn't great here but I wouldn't call it rundown." Surprisingly, he said he didn't get the impression Penzance was a holiday destination - which we're sure plenty of people would disagree with. He also said: "It's not the sort of place you'd want to brag about living in" and called it the Western-super-Mare of Cornwall.

5. Redruth

"The least inspiring place I've ever visited," were the bold words describing Redruth in fifth place. Among his list of complaints he said "nobody would wanna ever visit here" and "the scariest thing is the way people look". "I started questioning my own existence as I walked down the bland streets," he said, also calling his visit a "waste of time".

4. Camborne

He was pretty impressed with Camborne, despite putting it in fourth place. He said "it really wasn't that bad here" describing it as better than every other place in the Welsh valleys. He did however call it "so pointless it would be better off not existing" and said he never wanted to visit again.

3. Liskeard

In third place, he put Liskeard - describing it as "a pretty dreary place" saying it was difficult to find anything positive. "The main problem here seems to be extremely bored people. There is just nothing in Liskeard. It feels like a place on the edge of death." Then in a cruel blow he cited the recently unveiled £850,000 project to redevelop Liskeard Library, saying "most of the residents of Liskeard would have to learn to read in the first place".

2. Bodmin

Referred to as "really grim" he said had Bodmin's town jail still been an active jail - it would be very busy. "To smile would feel out of place in Bodmin," he added, calling boarded-up houses "vile rabbit hutches" and the high street "one of the most sorrowful high streets in existence."

1. St Austell

In the top spot St Austell was described as "a grimy, filthy, depressing, bleak, cesspit of humanity." He said the "vile dump" made him feel unsafe and that the whole town may as well be demolished. "No unsuspecting tourist should ever have to suffer the displeasure of wondering into St Austell," he added.
