A 56-year-old tourist died after completing the world’s highest bungee jump in Macau, China.
The unnamed Japanese visitor was taken to hospital shortly after finishing the extreme bungee jump from the Macau Tower on Sunday.
Local media reported the man experienced shortness of breath and lost consciousness shortly after completing the 764 foot jump on Sunday afternoon.
Hong Kong news outlet, HK01, said that the man had no superficial injuries on his body. He was rushed for treatment and was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Customers are advised to disclose any relevant medical conditions before taking part in the bungee jump, according to the website of Skypark by AJ Hackett, the company that runs activities at Macau Tower.
Disclosable conditions include heart conditions, high blood pressure, diabetes and past surgeries.
The bungee jump from the Skypark at the top of the skyscraper is the highest in the world, with participants plunging 233m.
Solo participants pay around £285 to take part in the jump.
An AJ Hackett spokesperson told the MailOnline: “AJ Hackett Macau Tower Limited is saddened by the death of a tourist following a medical situation at Macau Tower yesterday that occurred after the Bungy jump was completed.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased's family.
“Safety is our top priority, and each and every customer is subject to stringent safety procedures. In yesterday's incident, the tourist followed all safety requirements before taking the Bungy Jump.
“When our staff received word that he was feeling unwell after landing, they immediately administered first aid and called the authorities for help.
“The company is cooperating with relevant government departments.”
