Tributes have flooded in for a much-loved teacher and former headmaster of Dedridge Primary in Livingston.
Neil Anderson, known as Mr A, started teaching at the school in January 1988 and sadly passed away at the weekend. As news of his death spread, many ex-pupils paid their respects while one former teacher and colleague said he “had a natural affinity for teaching and made all pupils feel special.”
Many other former colleagues joined the tributes with with one saying: “He would happily give up his own time freely and willingly to support others.” Another added: “He enjoyed listening to stories from his pupils and would take a genuine interest in their personal lives.”

Dedrige & Glenvue Parent Council took to Facebook to share the devastating news and received a massive response - with many leaving their own messages. One read: “This is totally heartbreaking to find out, best teacher ever and always there, always up for a chat when you bumped into him out n about years after leaving school….. still called him Mr Anderson. My thoughts go to his family.”
Another said: “I’m so sad he helped me through so much when I was in primary school he always held a special place in my heart and memories, he definitely cared and will be missed by everyone who knew him.”
With another mourner saying: “This man was Dedridge primary school for me as when he retired the school was never the same again, gutted to hear the news. R.I.P Mr A.”
Current Headteacher of Dedridge Primary, Kathryn French said: “Everyone at Dedridge Primary School is deeply saddened by the news of Mr Anderson’s passing.
"He was a significant part of our school community for many years and is fondly remembered by former pupils and colleagues. On behalf of all at Dedridge Primary School, I would like to pass on condolences to his family at this sad time.”
