Touching Fenerbahce tribute to late Rangers fan Christopher Potter

Fenerbahce fans who have travelled to Glasgow for tonight's Europa League tie with Rangers have paid a touching tribute to late supporter Christopher Potter.

The 40-year-old was in Turkiye last week with thousands of fellow Gers fans to watch the club's Round of 16 tie against Jose Mourinho's side.

Sadly, the father of three from Dennistoun was tragically killed in a road traffic incident the night before the game.

The second leg of the knockout tie will be played at Ibrox tonight, with Barry Ferguson's side 3-1 up after goals by Cyriel Dessers and Vaclav Cerny in Istanbul.

Fenerbahce fans have flown into Scotland to support their team as they retain hope they can overturn the two-goal deficit to progress to the quarter-final stage.

And in a classy touch, pictured at Glasgow Airport, a large group of Fenerbahce fans posed with a flag as part of their tribute to Potter.

With an image of the diehard Rangers fan holding a scarf above his head, the message reads: "Rest in peace Christopher Potter. Fenerbahce London Association."

Supporters are being asked to join a minute's applause at the 40th-minute mark to pay tribute to Christopher this evening.

A statement published to Rangers FC's X account reads: "We were saddened to learn of the news of the passing of lifelong supporter, Christopher Potter, in Istanbul ahead of our UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first leg match against Fenerbahce last week.

"Christopher Potter was truly one of a kind and we would urge all supporters in attendance at Ibrox tomorrow evening to join in the minute's applause on the 40th minute mark in tribute to one of our own.

"Christopher will be missed by everyone who knew him and the thoughts of everyone at Rangers are with his family and friends at this time."

A fundraiser set up by those close to Christopher to support his family has now surpassed £169,000.

Barry Ferguson has become the latest big name in the football industry to donate to the GoFundMe page.

The Ibrox legend donated £1000 and wrote on the page: “Condolences from the Ferguson family.”
