The Minnesota Vikings need to address the cornerback position this offseason in a major way. They only have three cornerbacks on their roster in Cameron Dantzler, Andrew Booth Jr. and Akayleb Evans currently on the roster for next season.
The biggest question that the Vikings need to ask themselves when the draft comes is: Do we need to take a cornerback due to our need? Most mock drafts have the Vikings taking a cornerback and Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar agrees.
In his pre-Super Bowl mock draft, Farrar has the Vikings selecting Utah cornerback Clark Phillips III.
Here is what I wrote in my scouting report on Phillips III.
“Despite being a smaller cornerback, Phillips III has no issue getting physical with receivers. His real forte is his quickness and recognition skills. Phillips III has very quick feet and fluid hips to stay with the receiver. Phillips III makes it hard for receivers to stack him with his quickness and good long speed.”
The versatility to play both in the slot and on the outside will be incredibly valuable to a Vikings team that will want to continue developing their young talent at the position.
