Tottenham transfer news: James Maddison latest plus Harry Kane contract update

Tottenham have shown their ambition to push on with early summer transfer business, bringing in Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Fraser Forster and Djed Spence, while Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet has joined on a season-long loan.

With Tottenham back in the Champions League Spurs boss Antonio Conte recognised the need for more players to keep them competitive on multiple fronts in the 2022-23 campaign.

The Italian has not quite finished his business just yet as he looks to put the finishing touches to his squad. Mirror Sport has rounded up the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip.

Kane contract latest

Anxious Tottenham are urging Harry Kane to finally bury rumours that he’s set to move on. Spurs boss Conte wants his talismanic England skipper to finally quash all the speculation by signing a new deal.

He’s currently under contract until 2024 and has now been given a shot at Champions League football after Spurs’ fourth-placed finish last season. But that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill continually linking the 28-year-old with a switch to London rivals Chelsea or German giants Bayern Munich.

Football London have reported that goalscoring ace Keane is so happy at Spurs that he is “open to talks” over a new deal. But all the speculation over the loss of their key man so near to the start of the new season has fuelled more worries that he could be off. Kane’s long-term future has been in doubt since he came within a whisker of joining Man City in a £100m deal last summer.

Bayern’s reluctance to stamp on any speculation linking them with Kane has hardly helped. The Bundesliga side’s CEO Oliver Kahn has gone tight-lipped on a move for one of the world’s most feared strikers. Kahn declared the acquisition of Kane was a ‘dream of the future.” Bayern boss Julian Naglesmann has publicly declared his admiration just for good measure.

Maddison interest?

An incoming rumour that won’t go away surrounds Leicester's £60million-rated midfielder James Maddison. Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers, frustrated by his club’s lack of transfer activity so far, would oppose any move to snatch away the England star.

Caught Offside claim there are no talks between Spurs and Leicester over a deal for the talented 25-year-old attacking midfielder. Maddison, who has been previously linked with Manchester United, scored 12 goals and had eight assists in the 2021-22 season for the Foxes.

Conte eyes Zaniolo

Also in the frame for an attacking midfield slot is Roma’s Nicola Zaniolo. Tuttosport reckon Juventus are front runners for the 23-year-old but Spurs are not far behind them.

The Italian outlet claims Conte's hand could be strengthened by fact Juventus have to sell players to give them them the finances to meet Roma's £42.5million price tag for the player who has won nine caps for Italy.
