Tottenham transfer news: Harry Maguire approach considered with Manchester United future uncertain

Tottenham are among the clubs interested in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, who is set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

There is acceptance from both Maguire and United that it would be best if he finds a new club after struggling for minutes under Erik ten Hag last season.

Spurs have considered an approach for the 30-year-old, who has two years remaining on his contract and would earn a glowing recommendation from England teammate Harry Kane.

A centre-half is a priority for Spurs this summer, along with a new first choice goalkeeper, and Maguire would represent an experienced option, who also counts towards their homegrown quota.

However, new Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou prefers to work with younger players and there are concerns about Maguire’s salary -- reportedly around £190,000-a-week -- so it is unclear if Spurs will act on their interest. An initial loan deal could be a viable option for Spurs.

Spurs are also eyeing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, with the Spain international counting as a homegrown player in English football after coming through the ranks at Blackburn. Raya is reportedly valued at £40million by the Bees but Spurs would hope to pay significantly less given he has just a year remaining on his contract in west London.
