Frank Lampard has stressed Tottenham target Anthony Gordon is “going nowhere”.

Spurs had been interested in a move for the 21-year-old but were never fully confident of Everton risking a backlash from supporters by selling him, particularly having already lost Richarlison to Antonio Conte’s side.

During a difficult season at Goodison Park, Gordon emerged as a shining light and played a key role in helping Lampard keep the team in the Premier League, scoring a memorable winner against Manchester United in April.

Newcastle United were another keen on a move for the England U21 international, who has since been handed Everton’s No.10 shirt as a signal of growing importance.

“You’ve have got to work to get the No.10 shirt and Anthony has earned it,” said Lampard.

“He gives everything and is going nowhere. He is our player and we want to build with him.”

Lampard and his team are currently on a pre-season tour of the USA and will play Arsenal in Maryland on Sunday.
