Tottenham transfer for Ivan Perisic ‘close’ as contract details emerge for Antonio Conte reunion

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Ivan Perisic as a free agent in the coming days. The wide-man is said to have several offers on the table, but is looking to make the move to Spurs.

It would be a transfer that would see him reunite with manager Antonio Conte, having played under him at Inter Milan. Despite being a winger by trade, he has often played at left wing-back, fitting into the Italian’s system perfectly.

The move would just underline the image that Conte is trying to stamp on his Tottenham squad, already managing to earn an unlikely Champions League place for next season. Discussing his plans for the summer, the manager said: “We need to improve a lot.

“Next season the league will be very difficult for all the teams. With five subs you can change a game. If the bench is strong like a top team, like City, Chelsea, United and Liverpool, you need to improve a lot your squad in quality aspect and numerical aspect. You have to face in England three national competitions and one in the Champions League.”

In an attempt to bulk out his squad, goalkeeper Fraser Forster is reportedly close to announcing a move to the club on a free transfer as Pierluigi Gollini returns to Atalanta from his loan spell. And, according to Fabrizio Romano, Ivan Perisic is also close to making the free transfer to the club in a reunion with Conte.

That is despite reported offers from Inter Milan and Chelsea, showing the power the head coach has been able to have in influencing the 33-year-old’s decision. Romano adds that the contract is a two-year deal, which he is ready to accept and communicate that decision in the coming days.

It would be a huge sign of intent from Spurs if they manage to get the deal over the line, beating rivals to his signing and shaping the squad in Conte’s image more and more with early deals concluded.
