Nicolo Zaniolo has been criticised for his efforts to force a January transfer away from Roma, as Tottenham continue to be linked with a deal.
Spurs have been joined by AC Milan, according to reports, in chasing the Italian winger who pulled out of his side’s trip to Spezia on Sunday.
Under contract to 2024, Zaniolo was heavily linked with a summer departure before appearing to commit to Roma but a fresh saga has began to bubble over as the January deadline approaches.
The situation has led to Giallorossi director Tiago Pinto calling the player out for putting his own “interests” above that of the team.
“All of us in football know there are two different seasons, one where the transfer market is closed and we can all relax a bit more, another when the transfer window is open and someone tries to put individual interests in front of those of the collective,” he told DAZN, via Football Italia.
“Unfortunately, it is not the first time this has happened. Today all those who are here have the desire and motivation to fight for Roma and bring the three points home.
“I might’ve made many mistakes, but from my first day at Roma to my last, the collective needs and interests of Roma will always come first.”
It has been suggested that Bryan Gil is on the table in a swap deal for Zaniolo with Spurs told to fork out £30million for the 23-year-old.
