Tottenham are closing in on Guglielmo Vicario as their first summer signing, with the goalkeeper “living the dream” after a £17million deal was agreed.
Spurs acted quickly to agree a fee for Vicario, having grown frustrated in talks with Brentford for David Raya and amid reported interest from Inter in the Empoli man.
Standard Sport understands progress on signing the 26-year-old is at an advanced stage, and Vicario could reportedly fly into London over the coming days to come manager Ange Postecoglou’s first recruit.
A deal for Vicario has been described in Italy as a “coup” for Spurs, with the Italy international helping Empoli avoid relegation and earn Azzurri recognition in the process.
Vicario will undergo a medical should talks continue and the player himself appeared to be celebrating on Saturday night with his agent Gabriele Giuffrida.
Posting a picture of the pair on his Instagram story, Vicario added the caption “#LivingTheDream” followed by a red flashing warning light.
Vicario’s arrival could pave the way for Spurs captain Hugo Lloris to leave the club this summer.
