Tottenham star sends defiant top four verdict despite Manchester United and Arsenal wins

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris remains defiant of a European push this season despite Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick dragging Manchester United to victory against his side.

The 37-year-old had to fire the Reds in front three times to secure the points on Saturday evening, as Harry Kane's penalty restored parity midway through the first half before Ronaldo added his second just three minutes later. Harry Maguire's own goal brought the game level once again until the Portuguese star nodded home the winner late on.

Arsenal's win on Sunday saw them leapfrog United into fourth while Antonio Conte's side sit in eighth, six points off the top four and five points behind United. Despite the gap, Lloris insists Spurs will not "give up".

"In football, the possession is not enough and also tonight was the great Cristiano Ronaldo that brought the result in Manchester United's side," he said speaking to Spurs TV on Saturday. We are to be focused on ourselves.

"There's still 11 games to play. We knew that game could be decisive for the rest of the season but again, it's not time to give up.

"We need to keep hope for the European places. If we talk about the result, obviously there is a lot of disappointment, especially after the performance we delivered.

"We can only analyse the goal we conceded, I think we could have done better. We have some regrets because when we score the 1-1, we cannot concede three minutes later for 2-1 and then when we come back 2-2, I think is the moment to close the game."
