Tottenham star Harry Kane responds to Erling Haaland's transfer to Man City

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is relishing the challenge of competing with new Manchester City star Erling Haaland in pursuit of the Premier League Golden Boot next season.

City, who will discover their fixture list for the 2022/23 campaign on Thursday, officially announced the arrival of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund on Monday, more than a month after they had reached an agreement with the German heavyweights to secure his signature. He has joined the club on a five-year deal for an initial fee of £51million.

He has brought City's pursuit for a replacement for Sergio Aguero to an end, meaning he will now be under pressure to deliver the goods and replicate the form he produced so often in Germany here in England. He netted 86 goals in just 89 appearances for Dortmund, meaning he is one of the red-hot favourites to win the Golden Boot next season.

Along with Darwin Nunez's impending move to Liverpool from Benfica, the squabble to win the Golden Boot next term looks like being a highly exciting one, with the number of seasoned goal-scorers in the Premier League continuing to grow. And for Spurs ace Kane, who has won the award three times during his career so far, the competition is only a good thing.

"Look, the battle for the Golden Boot is always tough," Kane said. "The Premier League has produced some top strikers around the world for a number of years.

"Every season I've been playing it's always been a tough battle to win the Golden Boot - and it's no different. You expect the top strikers to want to play in the Premier League and in those two new signings that's going to be the case.

"It helps me as a player to have group competition and it drives me to improve and get better. I look forward to the challenge."

Kane, who scored his 50th goal for England in last Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Germany in Munich, notched 17 Premier League goals during the 2021/22 campaign, meaning only Spurs team-mate Son Heung-min (22), Mohamed Salah of Liverpool (22) and Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United (18) scored more than him. All four of the aforementioned players, as well as Haaland and Nunez, will be hoping to be in the mix next term.
