Tottenham look set to make their second signing of the January transfer window with the addition of Pedro Porro from Sporting CP. The Spanish full-back is set to join on loan for the remainder of the season before making the move permanent in the summer window.
football.london understands the loan deal has been done that way to fit in with Sporting's financial commitments. They need it to show in the next financial year, which starts as of April, so the two clubs found a solution to still be able to sign for Spurs now while also benefitting the Portuguese club.
For Antonio Conte it could prove to be one of the biggest signings he has made to date, given the importance of wing-backs to his current system. Spurs have struggled on the right side in particular, chopping and changing between choosing Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.

Describing his perfect wing-back in August, Conte said: "The wing-back is really important if you play with three at the back. They're important because it's no good if they are too defensive because in this position you need to have quality. I like to have players that in the past was a winger because in this situation they are good at one vs one."
With a move all but confirmed at this stage, Porro could have a few shirt numbers to choose from upon his arrival at the club. In his career so far, he has often preferred the No.24, which is now available due to Djed Spence's move away on loan for the rest of the season.
Potential squad numbers for Porro: 3*, 8*, 11*, 13, 18*, 22*, 23, 24*. 26, 28*, 31, 32, 35, 36, 37, 39, 43-99
*Players currently hold the shirt number but are on loan for the remainder of the season.
