Tottenham set to appoint Gretar Steinsson as performance director as Simon Davies joins academy setup

Tottenham are continuing to bolster their backroom staff by bringing in Gretar Steinsson as performance director and adding Simon Davies to their academy setup.

Steinsson, a former Iceland international who represented Bolton during his playing career, has previously worked at Everton as their head of recruitment.

The 40-year-old is due to join Spurs as performance director and will be working closely with managing director of football Fabio Paratici.

Tottenham are also close to boosting their academy staff by adding Davies, who had been working with Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht.

The 48-year-old earned a good reputation in Belgium and it was thought he could follow Kompany to Burnley, who want to hire the former Manchester City captain as their new manager.

However, Davies is now understood to be close to joining Tottenham as part of their academy setup. He has experience of working in academy football after doing so at City before leaving for Anderlecht.

Tottenham have already moved to bolster their backroom staff for the new season. Spurs are also bringing in Rangers chief scout Andy Scoulding, who is due to move to north London later in the summer. He arrives with an excellent reputation from Ibrox, having joined Rangers back in 2017.

During his time in Glasgow, Scoulding helped spot a lot of the talent that went on to become crucial players in Rangers’ title-winning side last season. That same team went on to reach the final of the Europa League this term, with the XI that started that match costing around £12million.
