Tottenham set for major injury boost ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Tottenham Hotspur could welcome back a key player for next week’s Carabao Cup third round clash against Nottingham Forest, as both sides look to make it to the next stage of the competition.

Forest host Spurs at the City Ground next Wednesday (7.45pm kick-off) after overcoming Grimsby Town in the second round. Goals from Ryan Yates and a Sam Surridge double gave the Reds a comfortable 3-0 victory at Blundell Park back in August.

The third round sees teams involved in European competitions enter the tournament, with Forest drawn against Spurs, although both teams are likely to make significant team changes for the game.

It has been claimed that the match could see a comeback for Tottenham forward Richarlison. The 25-year-old summer recruit has missed the last five games in all competitions with a calf injury picked up in the Premier League clash against Everton last month.

Reports from Goal Brazil now claim that Richarlison is closing in on a return, and is due back in full training ‘later this week’. While it is said the weekend’s Premier League clash against Liverpool will come too soon for the player, the League Cup tie against Forest is being targeted as a possible comeback game.

The forward joined Tottenham from Everton in the summer transfer window. While he is yet to score in his nine Premier League appearances, he has provided three assists.

Richarlison has also scored twice in his four appearances for the club in the Champions League. His comeback will come as a boost to Antonio Conte’s side, especially following injury to Son Heung-min.

The striker will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye suffered in Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Marseille. The injury will definitely rule him out of the game against Forest and makes him a doubt for the forthcoming Qatar World Cup.
