Tottenham see late transfer bid rejected with Tanguy Ndombele deal confirmed

Tottenham have reportedly seen an offer for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie turned down by the Italian club.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, via the Express, the north London club are looking at adding another central midfielder before tonight's 11pm deadline, with Tanguy Ndombele moving to Lyon on loan until the end of the season.

Ndombele has re-joined his former club on a short-term loan deal, with an option to make it permanent, and Antonio Conte is said to be keen on replacing the French midfielder.

Rodrigo Bentancur is on the verge of moving to Tottenham, but this would have been the case whether Ndombele left or stayed put in north London - meaning another midfielder is being touted.

Kessie is someone who has been linked with a move to Spurs for a while now, with the Ivorian midfielder due to be out of contract at AC Milan at the end of the season.

The Ivory Coast international apparently turned down a lucrative offer to stay at the San Siro recently, with the midfielder looking to embark on a new chapter in his career.

What has been said on Kessie's future?

Towards the end of 2021, AC Milan chief Paulo Maldini called on Kessie to be professional at the club until his inevitable departure, either today, or in the summer.

Maldini said: "We’ve been talking about it for a long time, we’ll have the opportunity to meet yet again with his agent and decide in relaxed fashion.

"However, it is not the priority right now, we have two very important games. We understand there’s a matter of money and transfers, but let’s also not forget that if we are in the Champions League, it is also thanks to the professionalism of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu, who did their duty to the end."
