Tottenham see bid rejected in £62m transfer race as Joe Rodon eyed by Premier League rivals

Here is your Tottenham morning digest on Sunday, January 30.

Tottenham see Diego Carlos deal rejected

Tottenham Hotspur have seen a bid for Diego Carlos rejected as they aim to bolster their squad before deadline day, according to reports.

The north London outfit had attempted to beat Premier League rivals Newcastle United to the signature of the Brazilian by offering midfielder Giovani Lo Celso in part exchange, says TuttoMercatoWeb.

However, Carlos’ current employers Sevilla have rejected that offer out of hand and have insisted that only bids close to the player’s €75m (£62.3m) valuation will be considered.

Brighton eye Joe Rodon swoop

Spurs’ interest in the Sevilla defender could be a direct consequence of rumours surrounding Joe Rodon’s future in north London.

The Welshman - signed from Swansea City in October 2020 - has seen Premier League opportunities come at a premium this season with just one appearance thus far.

It is suggested that Brighton & Hove Albion are considering a move for the defender as they attempt to find a replacement for Dan Burn, who is subject to interest from Newcastle United.

It remains to be seen whether any move would be on-loan or permanent but should Rodon complete a switch to the AMEX Stadium, he would be reunited with former boss Graham Potter.

Adama Traore’s Barcelona move confirmed

Tottenham have finally had to admit defeat in the pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers wideman Adama Traore.

The north Londoners were interested in a deal for the Spain international, but he has instead completed a move to Barcelona.

A club statement on Saturday read: “FC Barcelona and Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Adama Traoré until 30 June 2022.

“The blaugranes will pay the player's wages and there is an option to make the deal permanent.”
