Tottenham's Son Heung-Min handed Golden Boot boost by Liverpool ahead of North London Derby

Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min has been handed a boost in the race for the Premier League golden boot after Liverpool's Mohamed Salah was dropped to the bench for their clash with Aston Villa on Tuesday night. Spurs are eyeing a place in next season's Champions League but there is still the chance for some individual glory as well.

Son closed the gap on Mohamed Salah at the top of the scorers' charts on Saturday evening, opening the scoring in a 1-1 draw between the two sides at Anfield. The South Korean has now scored 20 Premier League goals this season while Salah sits on 22 with three matches left to play each.

But Jurgen Klopp has denied Salah the chance to stretch his lead, opting to play Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane at Villa Park with one eye potentially on Saturday's FA Cup final with Chelsea. Son will have his chance to close the gap on Thursday night in a huge North London Derby clash with Arsenal in the race for the top four and given how highly Antonio Conte rates his star man, it would be an enormous shock were he not to start.

“In this team, for sure Sonny we are talking one of the best players in this team," the Italian told his post-match press conference on Saturday night. “To score goals and have a good performance, only one player can change the life of the team and for this reason, I think Sonny is giving a lot to the team and the team is giving a lot to him to support him and score goals.

“We are talking about a really good guy, I see him every day and he is a humble guy and is always with a smile on his face. To be his coach is a great pleasure and honour but it is important personal target but the most important thing is to try and match a personal target with a great achievement for the team.”
