Tottenham’s perfect transfer window: Pau Torres, Denzel Dumfries and Christian Eriksen

Tottenham already have two new faces through the door before the transfer window has even opened, a real sign of the times under Antonio Conte.

Both free transfers and both very experienced, Ivan Perisic arrived from Inter Milan before Fraster Forster swapped Southampton for Spurs.

Signing two players the other side of 30 signals a change in transfer tact in north London as Daniel Levy throws his full support behind Conte and defacto sporting director Fabio Paratici.

Spurs are back in the Champions League and can sense big things with Conte in the dugout, so expected a similarly sized transfer window.

Here's what a perfect summer would look like for Spurs...

Goalkeeper

A new back-up for Hugo Lloris was required with Pierluigi Gollini not making the grade while on loan, despite being a hugely popular member of the squad.

Forster comes in with more than 350 games of top-level experience with Celtic and then Southampton, and also counts as homegrown for the Champions League squad.

Business done and already one step towards a perfect summer.

Defence

In: Dumfries, Torres

Out: Reguilon, Royal, Rodon, Carter-Vickers

Perisic has his 10 trophies, including three league titles, has joined on a two-year deal and is an ideal addition at wing-back. With Ryan Sessegnon likely to stay, Sergio Regulion therefore faces an uncertain future. Spurs are due this summer to pay the £25million owed to Real Madrid for the left-back, so recouping as much of that as possible would be very welcome.

On the opposite flank, Matt Doherty should be preferred to Emerson Royal, who has talent but doesn’t appear suited to Conte’s approach. A permanent sale, or loan-to-buy would be ideal. Middlesborough's Djed Spence is a target but Denzel Dumfries of Inter - more on them shortly - is less raw and reportedly available for around £35m.

Conte's key area to target is the left-hand side of his central-defensive three. Alessandro Bastoni and Inter are unwilling to part ways so any deal appears dead in the water, which leaves Pau Torres of Villarreal, Gleison Bremer of Torino, RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol and Lille's Sven Botman. Torres has been a long-term target for Spurs and with Villarreal keen to sign loanee Giovani Lo Celso permanently, then getting rid of deadwood while improving the starting XI appears a no-brainer.

Joe Rodon wants to leave for regular first-team football and, given his age and performances for Wales, should attract a decent fee. He does not count towards the Champions League homegrown list, so Japhet Tanganga is more appealing to keep. Cameron Carter-Vickers hopes to turn his Celtic loan into a permanent move.

Midfield

In: Eriksen, Ward-Prowse

Out: Harry Winks, Lo Celso, Ndombele

The return of Christian Eriksen would tick some many boxes: hugely talented, free and a homecoming of sorts. He transformed Brentford’s season from January and any chance to bring him back to the club shouldn’t be passed up.

Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse would prove a very expensive deal but his Premier League experience and set-piece delivery would immediately improve the squad.

Getting good money for Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele and Lo Celso will be key to the level of investment back into the squad, even with the £150m cash injection. Getting £50m for the trio is likely a best-case scenario.

Attack

In: Jesus

Out: Bergwijn, Parrott

Conte needs a forward who can play across the front line and demands players who run through walls for him. Pep Guardiola once described Gabriel Jesus as the hard-working forward in the world, and he’s available. So go get him. The added incentive of beating Arsenal to their no1 target would no doubt raise a smile in the process.

Marcus Rashford is also a target but the far biggest cost involved - and big question marks over his form - makes a deal look unwise. Steven Bergwijn should leave and Spurs will ideally recoup most of the £27m paid for him two and a half years ago. Lucas Moura is a perfect squad player: works hard and never complains.

A loan move for Dane Scarlett is the next logical step in the youngster’s career, while Spurs should cash in on Troy Parrott after a fine end to the season on loan at MK Dons.
