Tottenham's latest managerial twist could be good news for Manchester United with Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur's hopes of convincing Harry Kane to stay were perhaps dealt another blow after Arne Slot turned them down to remain at Feyenoord.

The Dutchman was expected to take the reins at Spurs following an extensive manager search. Antonio Conte was sacked by the club 60 days ago yet they have yet to make a permanent appointment.

The club took 73 days to eventually give Nuno Espirito Santo the job in 2021 after an embarrassing search to replace Jose Mourinho. That summer, Kane pushed for a move away from the club and almost joined Manchester City.

Manchester United will hope history will repeat itself as they look to tempt the England captain to Old Trafford. MEN Sport has reported Kane is Erik ten Hag's first-choice target to fill the number nine vacancy in his team.

Kane has one year left on his contract and this latest blow for Spurs could prove a tipping point. Slot addressed speculation over his future on Thursday morning and ruled himself out of the job.

"I have been hearing a lot of rumours going around about other clubs' interest in me," he said. "Although I am thankful, my wish is to stay at Feyenoord and continue working on what we created last year.

"Yesterday’s meeting was exclusively for an extension. All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. I'm looking forward to next season with Feyenoord."
