Emerson Royal has indicated that Antonio Conte has an "explosive side to him" but he does have a good relationship with the Tottenham boss. Signed by Fabio Paratici in August 2021, the Brazilian had been a regular in the head coach's Spurs side up until Pedro Porro's recent inclusion in the starting XI.
Now back on international duty with Brazil after an impressive start to 2023 with Tottenham, Emerson was asked about his boss in wake of that explosive post-match press conference following the 3-3 draw at Southampton. Opening up on his relationship with the 53-year-old, Emerson has discussed what it is like working with the experienced boss.
"As for Conte, I have a good relationship with him, he's not that coach that we have a very close relationship with, of talking a lot, it's his way," explained the right wing-back when speaking to Globo Esporte (via Sport Witness). "He's a coach who wants to help everyone, instructs, he shows the role he wants in each one's game. I don't see any problem, I have a good relationship with him.

"Conte is a coach who has this explosive side of him, a personality he created, but he is a coach who tries to help us as much as possible."
One other topic Emerson was asked about was Richarlison's recent interview where he gave an honest verdict on his start to life at Tottenham and his lack of playing time. Although the striker did later apologise for his comments after the AC Milan match, Emerson believes his teammate just wanted to vent and get things off his chest following their Champions League elimination.
"As for Richarlison's interview, I believe he left the game with a hot head," said Emerson. "I respect the opinion, these are things that came from his heart, he wanted to vent, I don’t know if it was the best way, I’m not the one who will judge the way he said or stopped talking.
"However, you could see, even by the way he speaks, that he was hot headed after a Champions League elimination. We wanted to go further, there were several factors that interfered with that."
