Tottenham's defining week in Premier League as they battle to secure Champions League spot

Following a disappointing end in their pursuit of a potential FA Cup, losing to Middlesborough after extra time in the fifth round, Tottenham were back to winning ways in the Premier League as they dismantled Everton 5-0 on Monday night.

The victory means that Antonio Conte's men are seventh in the table on 45 points at the time of writing, but are currently three points behind north London rivals Arsenal, who are positioned in fourth place but have a game in hand on Tottenham.

Champions League football is imperative for both clubs, not just from a financial point of view but also to help in attracting the top players across the world, many of whom want to compete in arguably Europe's top division.

With that being said, the business end of the season has well and truly arrived and looking ahead to the next set of fixtures, it could be a defining week in the top four race.

Spurs travel to Old Trafford, facing Ralf Ragnick's Manchester United in what looks set to be a crucial Premier League encounter.

On paper, it appears to be a difficult fixture for the north Londoners. However, it's a game that arguably plays into their hands as they will be allowed to play in transition, since Manchester United will most certainly look to take the initiative at home.

Meanwhile, Arsenal host Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with the Gunners hoping to make it five wins in succession.

Mikel Arteta's men could well secure the three points given the way the Foxes have been playing this season, despite their victory against Leeds United last weekend.

So it's very important that Spurs do manage to pick up a positive result against the Red Devils as the gap between themselves and Arsenal could widen even further.

On the following Wednesday, both clubs are back in action again, with Arsenal taking on Liverpool at home whilst Spurs travel to Brighton.

The Reds have been in scintillating form of late in the Premier League, and have an excellent record against the Gunners, meaning Mikel Arteta's sided could potentially slip up there.

This then would give Spurs an excellent opportunity to claw the gap back, although it certainly won't be easy since Brighton under Graham Potter have a knack of performing well against the so-called big teams.

Finally, the following weekend will see a London clash between Tottenham and West Ham United, while Arsenal travel to Aston Villa.

Two games in which both clubs could easily drop points in and it will be interesting to see whether Arteta's men are able to extend their lead or if the Lilywhites manage to reduce the deficit as the battle for fourth place and a potential Champions League place hots up.
