Tottenham Hotspur are set to have a busy end to the January transfer window as they look to get a number of deals over the line.
Spurs are reportedly hoping to bring in Juventus pair Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur in the final few hours, as Antonio Conte finally gets his wishes granted by chairman Daniel Levy.
But one late deal unlikely to be on the cards is a move for Yannick Carrasco.
Reports emerged from France that the north London club were interested in making a last minute move for Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.
According to The Athletic, Spurs did explore a deadline day move for the winger, but deemed it too late and decided there was no chance to get a deal done now after his £50m release clause expired a few days ago.
However, Atletico could sell the winger, 28, in the summer.
Would Spurs be genuine top four contenders with the signing of Carrasco? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
The wide man has two goals and five assists this season in La Liga and Spurs could revive their interest in the summer if he is still on Conte's wish-list.
Carrasco has received high praise throughout the majority of his career and has attracted plenty of attention from top clubs during his two spells in the Spanish capital.
His agent has also reportedlyheld talks with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United about potential summer moves, so Spurs could pull this one off today in order to avoid that competition at the end of the season.
Antonio Conte has been desperate to add to his ranks this month after transforming his side’s fortunes on the pitch and propelling them up the table to within touching distance of the top four.
And the Italian firmly believes his side can achieve that top four finish this season - but only if additions were made this month.
After pleading with chairman Levy about the need for signings in the current transfer window, it looks as though Conte may be finally getting his wish with Juventus’ Kulusevski and Bentacur.
But Levy could also send out a message to the rest of the Premier League with the signing of Carrasco too.
With Bryan Gil set to leave, options on either flank will be limited again, and so it could trigger a move for Carrasco in the final few hours of today.
Carrasco would certainly be a fantastic addition to the side and should Spurs choose to trigger his £50m release clause, then a deal could very well be on.
But the report also mentions that Newcastle are interested too, and with their financial power, could provide a big threat to Spurs - who already had their deal for Luis Diaz hijacked by Liverpool.
And they will be keen to not make the same mistake twice, so a move for Carrasco may certainly not be out of the question yet, especially if Levy and co want the club to push for Champions League football this season.
