Dubbing a transfer window a success or failure before we’ve really stuck our teeth into the mire of the Premier League season is always a dangerous affair, but according to Tottenham Hotspur fans, this summer’s vast cache of shrewd deals cut a convincing case for the former.
For the over 4,000 Spurs fans who voted in our “Good Deal or Bad Deal?” series so far, only one summer deal, ingoing or outgoing, received lower than an 75% approval rate, a sign that a once bloated Spurs squad looks to be shaping up in the right direction.
Ivan Perisic received the highest approval rating with 99% of Spurs fans reacting highly to the 33-year-old wing-back rejoining Antonio Conte’s ranks and adding his swathes of experience to the mix. Fast on his heels was midfielder Yves Bissouma carrying 97% of fans’ good spirits.

Spurs broke the club’s record transfer fee to secure Richarlison’s signature from Everton, and it’s perhaps the £60million price tag hanging around the Brazilian’s neck that has led to 25% of the Spurs faithful reticent to dub the deal a good one. Yet, after Richarlison proved pivotal in dragging Chelsea’s defenders out of position with his off-the-ball runs and helping restock Harry Kane’s supply lines.
Spurs' uncharacteristically early transfer dealings have been as sensible as they have been refreshing. Against Chelsea, it was the strength in depth that came to play and demonstrated a new dimension that Spurs have been sorely lacking for some time.
However, only 63% of fans agreed that Joe Rodon’s loan to Ligue 1 outfit Rennes, with a £16.8million option to buy, was the right call. Rodon has proved a divisive signing since his arrival from Swansea at the start of the 2020/21 season, with minutes increasingly difficult to come by under three different managerial reigns, but fans have been split on whether the highly-rated defender has been wrongly iced out. Cristian Romero’s recent injury momentarily reignited some of that chatter, but Rodon’s consistent game time with Rennes is precisely what the Welshman wanted ahead of a first World Cup with Wales in 64 years.
Just over a week remains of the summer window and deals are still to be done for those fringe players in search of first-team football. Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon are not part of the head coach’s plans, while question marks surround the futures of Japhet Tanganga and Bryan Gil. Conte has claimed that players must be replaced if they want to leave.
