Tottenham reveal Dominic Solanke squad number ahead of debut

Dominic Solanke will wear the No19 shirt for Tottenham after his £65million switch from Bournemouth.

The club’s record signing is set to make his debut in Monday night’s Premier League opener at Leicester.

And he will take the old squad number of Ryan Sessegnon, who left earlier in the summer to rejoin Fulham, with Mousa Dembele, Sebastien Bassong and Adel Taarabt among the players to don the shirt over the years.

Solanke could have opted for the No11 or No12 shirts, recently vacated by Bryan Gil and Emerson Royal respectively, which are typically seen as more traditional for forwards.

This will be the first time he has worn the No19 after spells donning the No9, No29 and No41 earlier in his career at Bournemouth, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Ange Postecoglou has talked up Spurs’ new signing after his first week in training with the club.

“Thankfully it is what we expected, he is a top pro, a good guy, he has settled into the dressing room really well,” the manager said on Thursday.

“Footballing-wise, you can see he has the attributes that fit into what we want to do really well. There is still an adjustment period there, as we play a little bit differently and train differently, and we have seen that with every new signing that comes in.

“So far he has fit in really well with the group and training. We still have a couple of sessions to go but so far, so good.”
