Tottenham receive investment from South African government in big-money deal

Tottenham are set to sign a £60m sponsorship deal with the South African government.

The north Londoners have been courted by the SA Tourism department which hopes it will help to attract visitors to the country.

The deal, proposed for 36 months, is understood to have been mooted a week ago. Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu is eager for the investment to be made before she is moved out of post in an upcoming cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Spurs, which confirmed the £39million signing of right-back Pedro Porro on Deadline Day, are expected to agree the sponsorship deal with a number of commercial entities seeing the north Londoners as a viable option.

Sisulu has framed Spurs to the South African government as – the home of England captain Harry Kane and the “8th most valuable football club brand globally”.

in signing a sponsorship deal with a Premier League soccer team, the South African government would be following Abu Dhabi’s sponsorship of Manchester City, Malta’s sponsorship of Manchester United and Rwanda’s sponsorship of Arsenal as similar deals.

The £42.5m deal would run from this month to June 2026, with the option to extend for another year.
