Tottenham react to Bayern Munich's new £70m Harry Kane bid as forward set for talks

Tottenham have rejected Bayern Munich’s latest bid for Harry Kane as they attempt to lure the striker to the Bundesliga.

The England captain is in the midst of a multi-club tug-of-war as he enters the final 12 months of his contract in North London. Tottenham are understandably keen to keep hold of Kane as they attempt to seal a return to Europe under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

In order to do that, they have to fight off plenty of interest in him. Premier League rivals Manchester United were keen to sign him but have since abandoned their interest due to Daniel Levy’s demands of over £100m.

Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are still firmly involved in the race though after lodging two offers to sign him. They saw an initial offer of €70m (£60m) plus add-ons for the 29-year-old turned down by Spurs but have since returned with an improved bid of €80m (£68m) with add-ons.

That offer still falls short of Tottenham’s valuation and they have now turned down the second offer too. Kane will now report for action on Wednesday for what marks his return to pre-season training following his international commitments with England.

It is expected that he will hold talks over his immediate future. However, he already seems to be moving the wheels on an exit with claims he has agreed terms with Bayern following a secret meeting.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel has put Kane at the top of his summer shopping list as Bayern attempt to replace Robert Lewandowski. The Polish forward moved to Spanish side Barcelona last summer after a hugely successful spell at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern signed Sadio Mane as a potential successor but he failed to find his top form in Bavaria and has been linked with a swift exit. Should Bayern fail to agree a deal for Kane, they are reportedly looking at Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen as a potential alternative.

Spurs are facing the risk of losing the academy graduate on a free in 12 months' time if they don't relent on their hard-line transfer stance. Following Kane’s return to training, they are set to fly to Australia, Thailand and Singapore for a series of overseas friendlies.

The striker is fresh off the back of another stunning campaign. Despite Spurs slumping to eighth in the Premier League last term, Kane still managed to score 30 league goals to finish behind only Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot.

Amid questions over his future, Spurs have also been busy in the transfer market themselves. They have already sealed a £40m deal for England playmaker James Maddison, who joins from relegated Leicester - and have signed Guglielmo Vicario to potentially replace Hugo Lloris as the starting goalkeeper.
