Tottenham players told to storm into Antonio Conte’s office following embarrassing defeat

A remarkable 3-2 victory away to Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday looked like the perfect turning point in Tottenham Hotspur’s season as they push for a top four finish.

The result left them seven points off the top four but with three games in hand - the first of those coming against Burnley on Wednesday evening.

But a complete change of fortunes occurred when they lost 1-0 to the relegation battlers and once again saw their top four chances take a huge hit.

Following that shocking performance, manager Antonio Conte gave a bombshell interview in which he questioned his own future at the club and what comes next for him.

Did Antonio Conte go too far in his post-match interview following the Burnley game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

And former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has responded to Conte’s actions by urging Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris to have a word with their manager and tell him they can turn it around.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said: “I just feel sorry for Spurs fans.

“You’ve been brought in to do a job at Spurs, you’ve got two of your players in – Kulusevski and Bentancur – they both started last night, get on with it! Two wins in the two games in hand against Manchester United and you’re one point behind Manchester United. Where’s the fight?

“As one of the senior players, I’m going to see him, I’m going to knock on his office and say ‘gaffer, we need you. You can’t be doing this in the media, you’ve got to stick with us. We can still put on performances like we did against Manchester City.’

“If I’m Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Lloris, I’m going to his office and saying: ‘Gaffer, are you with us or not?'”

The result means Spurs are still in eighth and seven points off the top four, but, as Agbonlahor says, if they win their two games in hand then that gap is cut down to one point.

Next up for Conte’s side is a trip to Leeds United on Saturday, followed by a home tie against Everton on March 7, before a huge clash at Old Trafford awaits them just five days later.

Spurs have shown that they are capable of achieving their big results this season, including the victory away to Man City at the weekend, but the levels of inconsistency have been high.

And after Conte’s comments in the aftermath of that Burnley defeat, his future now hangs in the balance.
