Daniel Levy revealed in his statement that he met with the 'Player Committee' at Tottenham before deciding to sack Cristian Stellini. The Italian oversaw an embarrassing defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend, with Spurs five-goals behind after just 20 minutes and eventually losing 6-1.
The north Londoners now sit fifth in the Premier League on 53 points, while Manchester United hold fourth on 59 points with two games in hand. Eddie Howe's side currently reside in third on 59 points and have just one game in hand.
Ryan Mason has taken over head coach duties with immediate effect and he's been tasked with the difficult job of climbing back up the table. While a Champions League qualification place may now seem out of reach, the 'Player Committee' – who are yet to be named – must be confident that the 31-year-old can do better than Stellini.

Confirming the power of the club's 'Player Committee', Levy said: "Ryan knows the Club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course.
"I met with the Player Committee today - the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season. We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support."
football.london understands that Tottenham's 'leadership group' comprises of Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Despite popular belief, it's said that Ben Davies is not in that enclosed circle.
Only last month, the club's supporters’ trust slammed Spurs for a concerning 'lack of leadership'. Speaking to the PA news agency, as quoted by the Independent, Tottenham Supporters’ Trust board member Martin Buhagiar said: "It is one drama after another, one mess and one crisis after another.
"It is really worrying because the lack of leadership there is becoming a real concern for Spurs fans now. We’ve known for months that Conte is leaving and no one at any point thought he would stay beyond the summer so that started it, because you’ve got Conte leaving but there doesn’t appear to be a Plan B. We’ve gone back to interim managers again.
"For me it shows really poor forward planning and that is the issue at Spurs. We have no first-team coach, no women’s coach, our director of football has been suspended and just before his suspension is endorsed worldwide by FIFA, they get him to send out a video talking about Conte.
"It is just about leadership. You need someone to stand up and say enough of this. It is identifying what that strategy is and standing up and offering leadership and being clear on the vision of the club."
