Tottenham player slammed after Aston Villa defeat as pundit savages 'worst player'

Tony Cascarino has branded Richarlison the 'worst player' in the Premier League this season after another poor display in Tottenham Hotspur's defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Spurs spent big money to prise the Brazilian from Everton last summer but he has failed to live up to that price tag. Richarlison has netted just once in the league with only two matches of the season remaining in what has been a terrible campaign for the North London side.

Spurs were looking to kick on after pipping Arsenal to fourth spot this time 12 months ago but have very much gone backward due to a poor transfer window. Ultimately, Richarlison was a major part of those summer incomings and former Chelsea man Cascarino did not mince his words on the former Watford attacker, labelling him the 'worst player' of the season and claiming he has lacked 'effort'.

He told talkSPORT: “If you said to me the worst player this season, right, the worst player for what he’s got - Richarlison.

“I don’t care if he’s been injured or gone away to a World Cup. He looked really disinterested.

“I know that obviously Antonio Conte pulled him out about his performances or a bit about he’s not played well. I’ve played poorly in my career but there’s one thing about a lack of endeavour and effort and playing badly.

“Richarlison was the player last year that I felt was as responsible as anybody for keeping Everton up, his performances at the end of last season. He hasn’t shown any of that at Spurs.”
