Tottenham lost at home for the second time in four days as two mistakes by Hugo Lloris helped Wolves to an impressive 2-0 win.
Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker capitalised on unconvincing moments from Lloris and the Spurs back line to fire Wolves into a 2-0 lead after 18 minutes, from which Spurs never recovered.
Harry Winks hit the post in the second half as the hosts laid siege to the Wolves goal but they could not fashion a breakthrough to leave Antonio Conte with five defeats from nine matches this year.
Dan Kilpatrick was at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to rate the Spurs players...
Hugo Lloris 4
Desperately unconvincing for both of Wolves’ early goals in an uncharacteristically error-strewn display. Did go some way to making amends with sharp saves from Jimenez, twice, and Daniel Podence.
Davinson Sanchez 4
Lucky to keep his place after Wednesday’s horror-show against Southampton and no better here. What has Joe Rodon got to do to get a chance?
Cristian Romero 6
The best of a bad bunch again but still uncharacteristically loose with the ball and unconvincing for Wolves’ second goal. Looked to drive Spurs forward in the second half and forced a fine save from Jose Sa.
Ben Davies 5
Part of a dreadful defensive display in the first half. Looked more comfortable at left-back and set up a good chance for Kulusevski.
Matt Doherty 5
Did little against his former club to suggest he is an upgrade on Emerson Royal and continues to look the shadow of the player who caught the eye at Molineux.
Ryan Sessegnon 5
The fall guy as Conte made an early tactical switch but had been no worse than the majority of his teammates. His rotten luck continues.
Harry Winks 6
Some good moments and some bad ones. Struck the post with a deflected effort in Spurs’ best chance and occasionally moved the ball into good areas. But made errors when pressed, particularly in the first half.
Rodrigo Bentancur 7
A bright spot in the gloom for Spurs. Not perfect but impressed on the ball and created a good opening for Son in the first half.
Lucas Moura 5
Largely a passenger in another ineffective game. If Conte isn’t going to try him at right wing-back, then dropping the Brazilian and moving to 3-5-2 is logical.
Heung-min Son 6
Saw plenty of the ball but was too hesitant in the final third, squandering several half-chances. Played in Kane for a good chance in the second half.
Harry Kane 6
Missed his big chance, firing at Jose Sa one-on-one and missed a succession of other half chances. You can’t fault his effort but Spurs need him to take those opportunities when they are so many problems elsewhere.
Subs
Dejan Kulusevski (Sessegnon 28’) 6
Fired inches wide from a great position when he should have hit the target. Had some decent moments, suggesting he should be an astute signing in time.
Steven Bergwijn (Lucas 71’) 5
Few involvements of note as he struggled to repeat his late heroics vs Leicester.
Emerson Royal (Doherty 82’) 5
Conte’s final roll of the dice, set up a chance for Kane with a dinked cross.
