Tottenham player ratings vs West Ham: Destiny Udogie impresses in friendly loss but Harry Kane quiet

Tottenham kicked off the Ange Postecoglou era with a defeat as they were beaten by West Ham.

Spurs put in a promising performance, though, and they looked sharp going forward, creating several chances throughout the game.

They were undone defensively and West Ham scored twice in the first half through Danny Ings and Divin Mubama to go in 2-0 up at the break.

Postecoglou made 11 changes at the interval and the new side did well, pulling it back to 2-2 thanks to goals from Giovani Lo Celso and debutant Destiny Udogie.

The Hammers, however, struck again through Gianluca Scamacca to claim the victory and maintain their perfect record in pre-season.

Guglielmo Vicario 5

A bit shaky with the ball at his feet, but made a great save to deny Bowen before the break.

Pedro Porro 6

Got forward as much as he could and put in a few good crosses.

Cristian Romero 6

Typically combative and threw himself into tackles.

Japhet Tanganga 6

Looks like he will get a chance under Postecoglou. Did fine here.

Sergio Reguilon 4

At fault for the first goal as Ings beat him to the ball. Struggled defensively all of the first-half.

Oliver Skipp 7

Looked fitter than most on the park having come from the European Under-21 Championship. Promising performance.

Yves Bissouma 7

Almost scored a brilliant goal after a lovely, flowing move. Solid at the base of midfield.

James Maddison 7

Had a few bright moments. Tried to get Spurs going with sharp and quick passing in the final third.

Dejan Kulusevski 6

Created a great chance for Tanganga, which the centre-back squandered. Got better as the first-half went on.

Harry Kane 5

A quiet performance from the striker, who was captain. Didn’t have a chance of note and struggled to get into the game.

Manor Solomon 7

Just about Tottenham’s best player during the first-half and looked very lively cutting inside. Unlucky not to score or assist.

Substitutions

Brandon Austin (Vicario 45’) 6

A much quieter half than Vicaro. Could have got out a deck chair, had it not been for the lashing rain.

Emerson Royal (Porro 45’) 6

A solid display, especially defensive. Stayed back to let Udogie get forward on the other flank.

Davinson Sanchez (Romero 45’) 7

A good performance from the centre-back. Setup Lo Celso’s goal with diving header.

Ben Davies (Tanganga 45’) 6

Played centre-back and was solid enough. Intriguing to see if he stays there this season.

Destiny Udogie (Reguilon 45’) 8 | Star player

Chalk and cheese when you compare him and Reguilon. Scored to top off an impressive performance.

Pape Matar Sarr (Skipp 45’) 6

Made a few charging runs forward during his 45 minutes.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Bissouma 45’) 5

Not as dynamic as Bissouma at the base of midfield. Lost a 50-50 that West Ham scored the winner from.

Giovani Lo Celso (Maddison 45’) 8

Created a decent chance for Richarlison with a good through-ball. Scored a well-taken volley.

Alfie Devine (Kulusevski 45’) 7

Promising performance from the 18-year-old, who looked at home on the right flank.

Richarlison (Kane 45’) 5

Hit the post with one effort and missed a great headed chance let on. Should’ve scored.

Ivan Perisic (Solomon 45’) 8

Played on the left of a front-three. Did well and setup Spurs’ equaliser.
