Tottenham player ratings vs Portsmouth: Harry Kane edges close to record as Sarr and Gil impress

Fraser Forster

Making his third start for the club, the experienced keeper made an early save to parry away Hackett-Fairchild's acrobatic effort. He didn't have anything else to do. 6

Japhet Tanganga

A confident display at the back and got forward on plenty of occasions with some quick passes into the strikers. 7

Davinson Sanchez

Dealt with much of what came his way in the centre of the back three and used his strength and bit of pace well. 7

Ben Davies

Very tidy display at the back. Nothing got past him and he used the ball well with his head and feet. 7

Emerson Royal

Offered little down the right until getting on the end of a Son cross and was unfortunate to send his header across goal and off the left-hand post. Switched to the right when Spence came on but didn't create much out there. Defended solidly enough throughout though. 6

Pape Matar Sarr

A couple of wayward passes aside, the 20-year-old looks very comfortable in a Spurs shirt. His movement off the ball is very good as is his anticipation, making a number of important interceptions. Touched the ball more than any other player on the pitch. Lasted the 90 minutes well despite a heavy late hit in a tackle. 8

Oliver Skipp

A last minute replacement for Yves Bissouma who picked up a knock in the warm-up. Worked hard while trying to play in a more attacking role than Sarr in a very young midfield pairing. He lashed over a shot unmarked from about eight yards which he should have got on target. 7

Ryan Sessegnon

Sent in a couple of dangerous crosses in the first half but still isn't running at his man, no doubt a linger after-effect of those hamstring problems. He did grab an assist though with his part in a one-two with Kane for the striker's goal. Came off with 15 minutes to go. 6

Bryan Gil

Looked confident throughout with some nice touches, turns and dribbles. Despite Kane's goal, the Spaniard looked the most likely to make something happen throughout. He's got great fitness levels while opponents tire around him and he worked hard to get back plenty of times. 7

Harry Kane

Lacked service in the first half but opened the scoring five minutes after the break with a fine curling finish after a one-two with Sessegnon. He then dictated much of the play in the second half and he's now just one goal off Jimmy Greaves' record of 266 goals for Tottenham with that north London derby looming. 8

Son Heung-min

Fired a couple of efforts over in either half and didn't look to quite have the confidence everyone hoped that goal in midweek would bring. 6

Subs

Djed Spence

Got 14 minutes or so from the bench and was solid enough. 6

Alfie Devine

Came on in added time two years after his debut at Marine and had one good run forward. N/A
