Tottenham piled the pressure on north London rivals Arsenal as they moved into the top four with a 5-1 win over Newcastle.
Spurs fell behind to Fabian Schar’s 39th-minute free-kick but responded before half-time, Ben Davies heading home from Heung-min Son’s cross.
Matt Doherty put the hosts ahead three minutes after the restart with a stooping header and Son gave them a cushion with a fine finish after a slick move down the right.
Emerson Royal made it four by scoring his first Spurs goal, volleying home Doherty’s cross at the near post, and substitute Steven Bergwijn capped a fine win with a low finish.
Dan Kilpatrick was at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to rate the home players...
Hugo Lloris 5
Should have done better for the goal, only getting a weak hand to Schar’s free-kick. Was beaten to the ball by Joelinton after recklessly rushing off his line in the second half.
Cristian Romero 9
Another dominant performance. Denied Joe Willock a certain goal with a flying block and lifted the crowd with two crunching tackles of Allan Saint-Maximin.
Eric Dier 7
Twice had efforts on goal in the first half. Stepped out of defence to win the ball back in the build up to the fifth goal.
Ben Davies 8
Scored a fine header to drag Spurs level and used the ball well. Occasionally stepped high to fly into tackles, suggesting he is learning from Romero.
Emerson Royal 7
Offered little in the way of attacking threat for an hour before popping up at the near post for his first Spurs goal, justifying his selection ahead of more exciting options.
Rodrigo Bentancur 8
Composed in possession and did his part defensively, getting up and down the pitch. Has made a huge difference to the side.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 8
Continued his good form with another composed and combative display in the middle of the park.
Matt Doherty 9
Forced out of position to left wing-back, he finished with a goal and an assist to continue his resurgence. Has shown tremendous character to rebuild his Spurs career.
Dejan Kulusevski 8
Linked midfield and attack, and proved decisive again, crossing brilliantly for Son’s goal after a quick one-two with Kane.
Heung-min Son 9
Carelessly gave away the free-kick for Schar’s goal but quickly redeemed himself by bursting forward, winning a corner and crossing for Davies. Took his goal superbly and also involved in the fifth.
Harry Kane 9
Sights on goal were limited but sublime as a playmaker again. Crossed for Doherty and involved in the slick move for Son’s goal. Some of his first-time passes were stunning.
Subs
Lucas Moura (Kulusevski 75’) 7
Assisted Bergwijn with a cute pass in a lively cameo.
Harry Winks (Bentancur 75’) 7
Nearly scored with a brilliant curling effort which flew just over the bar.
Steven Bergwijn (Emerson 80’) 8
Capped an excellent fortnight for his country with well-taken goal and nearly had another with a fierce effort.
