Tottenham player ratings vs Leeds: Harry Kane combines with Son and Kulusevski for deadly attacking display

Tottenham responded to their midweek defeat to Burnley and boosted their European hopes with a 4-0 thrashing of crisis club Leeds at Elland Road.

Fine goals from Matt Doherty, Dejan Kulusevski and Harry Kane threatened to put Spurs out of sight within 24 minutes, although the hosts had their moments as both sides missed glorious chances to add to the scoreline in next hour.

Heung-min Son capped a much-needed win for Spurs when he ran on to Kane’s brilliant pass and finished, leaving Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa under pressure.

Dan Kilpatrick was at Elland Road to assess the Spurs players...

Hugo Lloris - 5

Bailed out by Ben Davies after rushing off his line and losing possession to Stuart Dallas. Would have gone down as another clanger in the midst of a difficult spell for the captain.

Cristian Romero - 7

Anticipated danger well and was confident playing out from the back. Occasionally looked uncomfortable at defending crosses –perhaps a hangover from Burnley’s winner on Wednesday.

Eric Dier - 7

Used the ball well and solid enough in at the heart of Conte’s back three. That said, Spurs’ clean sheet owed plenty to luck and poor Leeds finishing.

Ben Davies - 8

Not always comfortable against the press but deserved huge credit for getting back to deny a certain goal after Dallas had escaped behind Lloris.

Matt Doherty - 8

Scored his first Spurs goal and followed it up with an assist five minutes later in his best performance for the club. Should have had another but took a heavy touch and Illan Meslier rushed out to save.

Harry Winks - 8

Made the first goal with a defence-splitting pass for Sessegnon. Enjoyed the spaces left by Leeds and coped better than usual when pressed.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - 8

His brilliant clipped pass made Kane’s goal and he was always busy and looking to get forward.

Ryan Sessegnon - 8

A confidence-boosting outing for the youngster, who made the first goal with a first-time cross for Doherty. Kept getting in dangerous positions, and might have finished with further assists and a goal.

Dejan Kulusevski - 8

Another decisive display, including a cracking finish to double Spurs’ lead. Twice went close in the second-half but had efforts saved and blocked. Has adapted impressively to English football.

Heung-min Son - 8

Looked set to be another frustrating afternoon but got his goal late on with a fine finish. Nearly scored earlier with a trademark dazzling run from the halfway line but Meslier saved.

Harry Kane - 9

Took his goal superbly and orchestrated many of Spurs’ best pieces of play, including the assist for Son. Just as against Manchester City, thrived in the pockets of space in deeper areas.

Subs

Emerson Royal (Sessegnon 78’) - 6

Got into dangerous areas late on.

Steven Bergwijn (Kulusevski 78’) - 6

Tidy but no opportunities to add to the score.

Dane Scarlett (Son 87’) - N/A
