Tottenham player ratings vs Burnley: Micky van Den the saviour as Pedro Porro proves constant threat

Tottenham’s hopes of Champions League football live on, just, after Micky van de Ven’s late winner earned them a 2-1 victory over Burnley, which relegated their visitors.

It was Burnley who took the lead when Jacob Bruun Larsen finished coolly in the first half, but Tottenham were back level at the break through Pedro Porro’s piledriver.

Tottenham dominated the second half and had their reward eight minutes from time when Van de Ven found himself in the box and tucked calmly into the corner.

Dom Smith was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to rate the Spurs performances…

Guglielmo Vicario 6

Helpless to prevent Burnley’s excellent opener. Had little else to deal with all afternoon, apart from an excellent stop from Vitinha’s early header.

Pedro Porro 8

Was a constant threat down the right and netted Spurs’s equaliser with a thumping first-half finish.

Cristian Romero 5

Did okay but was, at times, too rushed with his distribution, with passes failing to find their intended target.

Micky van de Ven 8

Made one or two important defensive headers and was Tottenham’s saviour, showing such composure to tuck their winner into the bottom corner.

Oliver Skipp 8

Filled in really well at left-back again, running beyond his marker and offering himself as a fourth midfielder at times when it was called for.

Yves Bissouma 7

Miss-placed a few passes passes but was lively throughout and tried to get Spurs moving.

Pape Matar Sarr 6

Chased after every ball and invariably won possession back when nearby.

Dejan Kulusevski 6

As has happened in a number of games this season, was pushed out too far wide at moments to be able to properly affect play.

James Maddison 7

At times lacked the confidence that has also been missing in previous weeks, but this was a strong return to the starting line-up and he showed glimpses of his enviable talent.

Brennan Johnson 6

Played some nice give-and-goes with Spurs’s other attackers. Should have scored in the first half when the goal was gaping and missed a howler from Son’s late cross.

Son Heung-min 6

Another frustrating afternoon for the Spurs striker, who struggled to make a genuine impact and now has just two goals in his last seven appearances.
