Tottenham player ratings: Kane the match winner, Hojbjerg a driving force and Doherty return

Hugo Lloris

Made a flying save to push away Caicedo's drive from the edge of the Spurs box just before the half hour mark. Then saved Welbeck's powerful low shot before the break. Made a brave save at the feet of Mitoma with just over 20 minutes to go. 8

Cristian Romero

Got stuck in as usual and made plenty of runs high up the pitch. Headed a pass towards Kane to set up the striker with a big second half chance. A couple of lunging challenges but definitely looking more like his old self now. 8

Eric Dier

Made an important tackle 17 minutes in to stop March driving towards goal. Led the line well at the back for Spurs. 8

Ben Davies

Back on the left of the back three and very little got past him down that flank as he worked in tandem with Sessegnon. A seamless return. 8

Matt Doherty

Rusty to begin with but some plenty of good movement down the right and he bounced an early volley over from Sessegnon's cross. An important 90 minutes in his legs and he made a huge tackle to stop Trossard shooting from eight yards for what likely would have been a goal. He got a big hug from Dier after the challenge. 7

Rodrigo Bentancur

Fizzed in a shot that Sanchez had to fly to his left to save, which resulted in the corner that led to Spurs' first half goal. Also a number of loose moments in possession as he ran into numbers in the centre of the pitch. 7

Yves Bissouma

Rusty in some of his play but some good defensive contributions. Picked up another daft early yellow card when starting but did well not to step off the tightrope he was then on. Came off with 20 minutes or so to go. 6

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

With the midfield three it was his job to get up and down the pitch and support the attack and he certainly put in the yards. He was a driving force in both halves. 8

Ryan Sessegnon

A busy night up and down the left flank, working hard in defence and putting in some crosses that deserved better movement from the attackers. Another very solid display from the 22-year-old. 7

Harry Kane

Handed a harsh yellow card for an early handball but responded with another goal for the collection, heading Son's cross past Sanchez. Dragged a big chance across the face of goal just after the hour mark. Not his best game but he still made the difference in front of goal. 7

Son Heung-min

Curled an early free-kick at goal which Sanchez had to push away. Grabbed a great assist in the first half hour with his curling cross for Kane to head home. Some moments when he held on to the ball too long, especially for one quick break Spurs made towards the Brighton box. Curled home a delightful shot only to be flagged offside. Came off for Perisic with 10 minutes to go. 7

Subs

Richarlison

Tried to connect to a low Perisic ball across the face of goal in the 83rd minute. 5

Ivan Perisic

Came on for Son and soon put in a dangerous low cross into the Brighton box. 5

Oliver Skipp

Replaced Kane in the final moments. N/A
