Tottenham next four fixtures compared to Man Utd and Newcastle with Champions League opportunity

Tottenham were unable to put any pressure on Newcastle United as they were well beaten by struggling Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. Spurs went into the game on a high having seen off Manchester City last weekend but were well and truly humbled by Brendan Rodgers' men.

Two goals in two minutes from Nampalys Mendy and transfer target James Maddison saw the Foxes overturn Rodrigo Bentancur's early strike and Spurs couldn't respond.

Kelechi Iheanacho's goal before the break left plenty to be done for the team overseen by Cristian Stellini and Antonio Conte. Harvey Barnes eventually added a fourth having had one disallowed earlier in the game to cap off a terrible afternoon for Spurs.

They are now two points behind fourth placed Newcastle, who could only draw with Bournemouth later on Saturday, having played a game more. The positive bit is that Tottenham are more than within reaching touch of the Champions League places but midfield injuries threaten to derrail their season ahead of a trip to San Siro.

Tottenham next four fixtures:

AC Milan (A), Champions League - February 14

The Champions League now provides either a stern test of mentatlity for Tottenham or a needed break from domestic action, depending on how you see it.

When the draw was made Spurs would have been threatened by the prospect of facing the Italian champions but Stefano Piolo's men have fallen way off the pace in Serie A, losing four of their last five games. They had been on a run of no wins in seven before beating Torino on Friday. It is also a trip back to Conte's old home ground.

West Ham (H) - February 19

A London derby up next in the league as Spurs seek to get back to winning ways before a testing run of games continues. The Hammers are struggling but gained a valuable point against Chelsea on Saturday.

Spurs are unbeaten in four at home against David Moyes' side and will see this as a chance to propel themselves back into gear.

Chelsea (H) - February 26

Another London derby follows that with the reverse fixture from the second game of the season. At Stamford Bridge Conte and Thomas Tuchel came face-to-face, literally, in the dugout whilst hair-pulling controversy and VAR clouded the feisty 2-2 draw.

The Blues haven't had much luck since then and have fallen to mid-table, where they have remained for most of the season. Having won all three of their trips to the new stadium though, Chelsea will be hoping to energise their season.

Sheffield United (A), FA Cup - March 1

Tottenham continue their run in the cup with their most likely chance of silverware left. Having beaten off lower league opposition from League One and the Championship in previous rounds it is another step down for Spurs, who go to promotion chasing Sheffield United.

The Blades edged past Wrexham in a fourth round replay and will be relishing the task of welcoming Premier League opposition to Bramall Lane once more.
