Tottenham news: Third Ange Postecoglou signing announced amid £30m James Maddison confirmation

Your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Thursday, June 29.

Maddison becomes third Postecoglou transfer

James Maddison has signed for Tottenham to become Ange Postecoglou's third summer signing completing £40million move to Spurs from Leicester City.

The England international has signed a five-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with personal terms and an agreement over a final fee with Leicester sorted swiftly.

Following the Foxes dropping down to the Championship, Spurs were in a battle with Newcastle United for the 26-year-old's signature, but have secured his signature to finally replace Christian Eriksen who departed in January 2020.

£30m Maddison deal explained

Tottenham paying just £40million for the signing of James Maddison could be one of the best deals completed in the summer transfer window.

Leicester valued their star playmaker at £60million, but an agreement has been reached for just two-thirds of that price and another summer deal actually technically means Spurs paid just half of the Foxes' asking price.

In a separate deal to Maddison, Spurs midfielder Harry Winks, who spent last season on loan at Sampdoria, is set to complete a move to the King Power Stadium.

UEFA make huge FFP decision

UEFA's Executive Committee have endorsed amendments made to the UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Sustainability including that club will no longer be able to amortise registrations over a period longer than five years, even if a player's contract is in excess of that time. The rules are set to come into force on July 1st.

The decision made is most likely to impact Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham as clubs who may part ways with significant funds and aim to spread the cost over long-term deals.

In the last 12 months, Chelsea have been able to agree contracts until 2031 for the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez, but that will no longer be possible.
