Tottenham news: Spurs told they have edge in top four race amid double problem

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes his former club are not favourites for the top four and backed rivals Tottenham to overtake their north London rivals.

Despite being six points behind the Gunners, that hasn't stopped the club or pundits backing Antonio Conte's side to do the unthinkable with 10 games remaining. And one of the reasons the Lillywhites are seen as the pick to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League is the Italian manager being in charge.

If Spurs are to feature and do well in Europe's top club cup competition, they will need keep hold of current players including a key duo.

Keown backs Spurs

Arsenal are currently six points clear of north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, having played the same amount of games.

With 10 games left until the end of the season, many would pick the Gunners to get the job done and maintain that final UEFA Champions League spot. But ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown is not so sure his old club can hold on with Spurs breathing down their neck.

Speaking on BT Sports, Keown said that there's a 'long way to go.'

Conte gives club European hope

Tottenham are considered to the dark horses to finish fourth this season, despite playing catch-up to not only Arsenal but Manchester United as well.

There are plenty of reasons why the likes of former midfielder Danny Murphy and ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown have come out on the record to say they believe Spurs will get the job done. One of those reasons is having Antonio Conte in the dugout, given his experience of winning titles not only in England but in Italy as well.

Conte will be hoping his side can pick up three points on Sunday against London rivals West Ham.

Spurs' duo problem

It's never to early to think about strengthening the squad in the summer transfer window, especially when looking to get ahead of rivals.

However, ensuring key players stay inside the building comes first before you are able to cast your net outside of the club. And Tottenham have a major decision to make on two players, Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn, who have recently falling down the pecking order.

The pair have attracted interest overseas and should they leave, the club will need to dip into the market to replace them.
