Tottenham news: Spurs join Chelsea on transfer scouting mission as UCL player ratings revealed

Your Tottenham morning digest on Wednesday, October 5.

Conte asks for trust on Spence decision

Antonio Conte has asked Spurs fans for their 'trust' amid calls for the Italian head coach to start young wing-back Djed Spence. Many Tottenham supporters want to see the summer signing start, especially after Emerson Royal was sent off in the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday.

"The fans have to be fans," said the Spurs boss. "The fans is the fans, I understand they can think everything but I see every day what happens during the training session.

"I try to do the best for the team. If they trust me, then they trust me, but the choices are mine. If I didn't decide to pick one player it's maybe because he's not ready.

"We are talking about a young player with a good prospect, but I repeat I try to pick the best team. Also Doherty last season played every game. Now I’m not seeing him in the right way to start the game.

"I'm not stupid, I don't want to lose. I try to put the best team, to pick the best team. If they trust me it's ok, if they don't trust me then I'm the coach and I need to take the best decision for Tottenham."

Spurs join Chelsea on scouting mission

Scouts from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur joined 15 other clubs at the Estádio do Dragão on Friday night to watch Porto's clash with Braga, according to A Bola. The Portuguese giants won 4-1 with goals from Evanilson, Stephen Eustáquio, Pepe and Wenderson Galeno.

Tottenham were said to be looking at David Carmo, who was heavily linked with a move to north London ahead of the summer. The 23-year-old, ironically, joined Porto this summer from Braga for around £18million and featured in the side which beat his former club.

A Bola said that Spurs expressed an interest in the versatile defender after he put himself on the radar of a number of top European clubs following a breakthrough campaign. Tottenham were believed to have opened negotiations, but a deal - obviously - failed to materialise.

Lloris and Kane below par

Here are Alasdair Gold's player ratings from Spurs' 0-0 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Tuesday evening. Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane are among those that disappointed while Eric Dier impressed.

Hugo Lloris (5): Another poor day with his feet despite doing plenty of kicking drills in the warm-up before the game. A couple of sliced kicks when trying to make clearances although he didn't have much to do with his hands until a good save to deny Knauff five minutes into the second half. Put Romero into a problematic position with an iffy pass not long after.

Eric Dier (7): Seemed to take an early knock but played a great ball over the top into the path of Emerson who volleyed over. Didn't do much wrong.

Harry Kane (5): Had a couple of half chances in the first half hour before driving a low shot wide of the left-hand post. Lacked quality in the second half though with some of his play and picked up a yellow card for a coming together on the floor.
