Tottenham news: Spurs handed AC Milan transfer blow as Antonio Conte dealt major injury problem

Asensio transfer blow

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Marco Asensio, with AC Milan now confident they can sign the winger. The Real Madrid man is said to be of interest to Spurs.

Asensio, 26, has just over a year remaining on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and continues to be linked with a departure in the summer. Arsenal and Tottenham have both been credited with an interest in his services, but Milan have already met with the Spaniard's entourage, according to reports.

Doherty injury blow

Matt Doherty is set to miss the rest of Tottenham's season following the knee injury he suffered against Aston Villa on Saturday, football.london understands. The Republic of Ireland international has become a key player in recent weeks under Antonio Conte.

However, Doherty's knee injury, that he received in the early stages of the win at Villa Park at the weekend, now means he will be out for up to 12 weeks. football.london understands that scans on the injury have revealed he has ruptured his medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Son lauds 'superman' Lloris

Son Heung-min has described Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as a "superman" following his impressive display against Aston Villa at the weekend. The Spurs shot-stopper made a few strong saves and more than earned his clean sheet in the Midlands.

Speaking to Spurs TV. after the game, Son said: "What can I say? He [Lloris] saved us today. We scored goals but if Hugo wasn't there we were probably 3-1 down or 4-1. Hugo saved us in a tough time, in difficult times. When we need him, he was turning like a superman, like a captain. I would say Hugo saved us today."
