Tottenham news: Son Heung-min's dad's 'big club' claim and Harry Kane's new challenge

There is a lot to be excited about for Tottenham Hotspur fans at the moment.

There appears to be little danger of the team losing any of their key assets, they continue to be linked with high-class players and next season they have Champions League football to come under one of the best managers in the world.

Antonio Conte will not only want Spurs to fight for the top four though. As much as Manchester City and Liverpool were well clear of the rest in the Premier League last season, the Italian will want Tottenham to get up there. And soon.

Mirror Sport has all the latest Tottenham news.

Will Harry Kane or Son Heung-min outscore Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez next season? Let us know in the comments section below!

Son's father

The father of Tottenham forward Son Heung-min believes his son will need to perform for a "top club" to be considered one of the best players on the planet.

The South Korea international has developed into one of the most dangerous forwards in the Premier League and topped the scoring charts last season with 23 top-flight strikes.

While there appears to be little indication that Son wants to move clubs, the player's father has hinted at a potential move further down the line.

"Instead of being happy to stay where he is, I always want him to be 10 per cent better... he must be able to play a solid role in one of the world's top clubs," said Son Woong-jung. "That's when he will become a world class player. He scored a lot of goals this year, but it doesn't mean he will do the same next year."

Kane relishing Golden Boot battle

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has said he is relishing the chance to compete against some new forwards in the Golden Boot race.

Manchester City and Liverpool have spent big money on Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez respectively this summer, giving more attacking firepower to what are already elite squads.

Last season, it was Son who won the accolade along with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. Kane is a former winner too and he has had his say on some of the new goalscorers coming to the Premier League.

"I think the battle for the golden boot is always tough," he said. "The Premier League has produced some top strikers around the world for a number of years now.

"Every season I’ve been playing, it’s always been a tough battle to win that Golden Boot. It’s no different. You expect the top strikers to want to play in the Premier League. Like I say, with those two new signings, that’s going to be the case."

Pochettino pictured in Spurs gear

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino clearly holds some affinity for the club, despite being sacked three years ago.

It is expected that Pochettino will be axed by current club Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days. Although they were dominant in Ligue 1, the capital club were eliminated by Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16 - more was expected after a huge summer recruitment drive, with Lionel Messi one of a number of high-profile signings.

With that in mind, perhaps it's little surprise to see the former Argentina international in the colours of a former club than his current one. Pochettino was pictured in a "Spurs" t-shirt on the Instagram of his former team-mate Ivan de la Pena.
